**Disclamer- this is a lot of words and few pictures, but someday I will probably be glad I wrote it to look back on.
Sunday morning (4/7) we left for church on time, but with a poopy diaper. Before Trevor was born we typically arrived 2 minutes late (mostly my fault), so now I strategically plan out what time I need to get up and shower so I will be ready for Trevor to eat at exactly the right moment so that he can eat, be changed, get dressed, burp a little more, and get in his seat with enough time that we are not late and he can also make it until we're home again for his next feeding. Developing and keeping this schedule is no small feat, but so far it's been working for us. This Sunday was no different except that at 10:02 after Kyle clicked his seat belt into place, he pooped. We decided the best plan would be to drive to church and get a clean diaper there.
I changed him in the nursery, and they even had spare diapers so I didn't have to go rooting through my bag while holding him on the changing table. In hindsight though, I realize that the diaper I used with a 1 written in magic marker, probably really wasn't a size 1. He slept through the first 45 min of church, and then woke up fussing so Kyle took him out in the hall. At that point I noticed a spot where he had peed on my pant leg (diaper was too big!). I took the diaper bag out to Kyle, and at that point Trevor was really getting fussy & loud, so we opted to change him in a spare room instead of the nursery to avoid getting all the other babies cranked too. He held it together for the rest of church just fine, but stayed in the hall with Kyle to be safe (you can hear the sermon on a speaker out there). Trevor slept on the way home and let us enjoy a delicious lunch of buy one get one free Chicken Wraps from McDonalds before he was ready to eat again around 1:00pm.
After eating Trevor cooperated for a few photos I had in mind, and then dozed off. I left to run an errand, but shortly after I left he woke up cranky and fussed, screamed, and was generally inconsolable the whole time I was gone. He settled down approximately 2 minutes before I walked in the door (poor Kyle!), but woke up very soon after so I fed him again around 4:00. Then Kyle left to run some errands of his own, and of course Trevor slept peacefully the whole time (sorry Kyle). We ate dinner around 6:30 while Trevor sat in his rock&play, but soon after he went back to screaming and being inconsolable. At 7:30 we gave him a bath, which he seemed to like (was fine as long as he had his binky), then he ate at 8:00 and went to sleep after. This means he was actually sleeping and we were done going back in there shortly after 9:00.
12:00am Monday (4/8) he was up again to eat. Realistically back to sleep by 1:00am. (We both got up this time). At 3:00am he was back up to eat. Probably asleep again by 4:00. (I got up alone with him this time so Kyle could get extra sleep before work). At 5:00 he was awake again fussing, with a poopy diaper. Kyle got up to change it, and then I rocked him back to sleep by 5:30. At 6:00 he was up again to eat and Kyle left for the gym. After he ate Trevor went back to sleep, this time in his rock&play, and did a wonderful job (even with his arms busted out of the swaddle!). I did a load of laundry, took a shower, re-arranged some stuff in his room, had breakfast, and dusted the upstairs. Then he woke up to eat around 9:30. When he finished he got dressed and we went downstairs to read stories. Then I held him while he slept for a little over an hour. He sat in his rock&play while I had lunch.
It was his turn to eat at 12:15 and afterwards I hoped we might take a nap together as his extra time awake in the night was catching up to me. Trevor wanted nothing to do with sleep and went into crying, screaming, being inconsolable mode (my payback from Sunday!). He alternated this with short 15 min sleeps for the next 2 hours. At 2:30 he ate again, and struggled to fall asleep but finally did a little before 4:00. He was swaddled and in his crib. I prepped dinner, washed dishes and folded & put away laundry, then threw dinner in the oven at 5:00 and woke Trevor up to eat around 5:15. I hate to wake him up but if I don't he wants to go to bed way later than we can handle!
He was inconsolable and screaming through dinner, but then Kyle and I had the wild idea to take him to the mall on an errand. We figured he would fall asleep on the drive over and then sleep riding around in his stroller. HA! Trevor had other plans. He alternated snoozing and freaking out for the next hour and a half while we took turns shhh-ing him bent over trying to drive the stroller to soothe him and hold his binky in at the same time (wish I had a picture of this!) as the other one looked for a dress shirt for Kyle. Now that he's lost weight, but still has long arms, the size he needs literally does not exist. And we found out the brand of shirt he likes at JCPenney is being discontinued. Rough day for both Kyle and Trevor. Somehow I lucked out finding a shirt Kyle was okay with AND a picture frame for $3.18 that I can put a free photo in instead of paying $19.95 for the combo. :]
Trevor ate around 8:15 when we got home, and was asleep in his crib by 9:30.
Kyle and I were in bed by 10:00.
4/9/13- Trevor at 7 weeks old
Kyle got up with him at 1:00am and gave him a bottle while I finally caught up on sleep. Not sure what time Kyle got back in bed, but we were both up with him again to eat at 3:15. This time Kyle went back to bed after the diaper change midway through at 3:30. Then Trevor finished and I was back in bed by 4:00. Trevor woke up to eat again at 6:15. Kyle slept through this one, but changed his diaper at 6:45 before starting to get ready for work. I put Trevor back down to sleep in the crib swaddled, but had to go back in every 20 min or so for the next hour and half to settle his random fussing. Somewhere in there I ate breakfast so at 8:15 when Trevor started sleeping good I got in the shower and did a load of laundry. He woke up to eat at 9:30, then I got him dressed.
At 10:00 I read him a book in Spanish and told him about the kids in Bolivia. Then we went on a 25 min walk around the block in his stroller- he snoozed the whole time. [We only saw one chicken]
I woke Trevor up to eat at 5:15. I hate to do that but had to so we could make dinner and eat when Kyle got home and he wouldn't be up too late tonight either. He finished at 5:45 right as his dad walked in the door. Kyle held him while I made dinner. He was just about asleep so he laid him in the rock&play and we ate dinner at 6:30. Trevor stirred a bit and was a little fussy while we ate, but was consoled by being rocked and having his binky.
At 6:45 he started to get a little crankier so I held him while Kyle cleaned up. Trevor was dead asleep. We put him in the car seat and took a 25 min walk. It got to over 80 degrees so I was hoping the ice cream truck would come by again (it came at 5:45 but we hadn't even eaten yet!). Unfortunately it didn't so after our walk we went thru McDonalds for a McFlurry and a frozen lemonade. Trevor fussed a little in the car (probably lost his binky) but settled down on his own (I was up front in the passenger seat) and slept until we took him out at 8:00 to eat and start getting ready for bed. I read to him while he ate, and then Kyle rocked him to sleep for about 20 min. At 9:00 he was in bed seemingly asleep. He stirred a little 10 minutes later, but after a few minutes up on Kyle's shoulder was conked and officially asleep from around 9:15 until 11:10. We both got up and after he ate Kyle rocked him back to sleep by 12:15am. (Up again to eat at 2:15 and 6:40 with 5 minute wake ups also at 4:00 and 4:45)
It really was the a perfect day. They DEFINITELY aren't all easy, but waiting for one to come along is what gets me through the rough ones. Now if I only I could find my lost sock ..
